Saint Patrick Catholic Church is an unusual acoustical space. Originally designed
to
be the gymnasium the room has a reverberation time (RT60) in excess of 3 seconds.
The system employs three clusters of JBL large format horns time aligned using
digital signal delays. The result is intelligibility in the good to excellent range
throughout the auditorium. Prior to the installation of the system printed
sermonettes
were distributed each week so that the parishioners could read along as the priest
gave his sermon (they could never understand him!). After the installation of the
new system the church was able to save a bundle on printing because the weekly
sermonettes were discontinued.

The antique two channel Altec mixer is used to feed the output of the
house plus the commentary of a sound room based narrator to the broadcast feed.
Catholic worship services have many periods with no audio activity, hence the need
for the narrator to fill the dead air with commentary.
